What is colour ?

“For a physicist colour is measurable, it is a kind of radiation of light with specified energy and wavelength. For a physiologist it is the effect of stimuli reaching our eye, to be transmitted to the brain as impressions. A psychologist examines the influence colour has on human psyche and behaviour”. (Maria Rzepińska. The motif of colour in the history of European painting. Literary edition – Cracow 1983 p. 17.)

Colour also affects the size of an object. If you compare two objects of the same size, and one of them is blue and the other one is yellow, it is the latter that will seem bigger. To a large extent, it is the brightness of the colour that makes us think so, thus bright colours: yellow, white, green, orange, optically enlarge objects.

“Another distinct influence of the colour is to be observed when we judge the distance . And thus yellow will make the object look closer, whereas blue will create optical distance” (Agata Mączyńska – Frydryszek. Physiology of seeing part 2, Colour compendium. Science Booklets nr 0000002 , The Academy of Fine Arts in Poznan 1976 s. 127).

Colour is a phenomenon, impression, it can also be an illusion. It is all that we can notice. Anything that surrounds us is always a system of colours, which has a greater or lesser influence on us.

Colour is a clear system of communication – if you know how to use it, you can boost the sales of your product or service. It plays an important role at the point of sale, where it can either encourage or discourage customers. Colour in clothing

We often meet new people, both in our professional life and in private. What do we think about them? How do we judge them? In what way shall we judge strangers? - looking closely at the colour of their outfit will help us solve the problem. As it is often said “Clothes make the man”. Thus, colour can tell you a lot about the other person. Colour is an important element of any outfit and it helps to express one’s personality. If the colour matches the person’s character, then they will feel more confident about themselves and about what they do.
